Christianity and the Global Politics of Sexuality
A panel with Elizabeth Castelli, Eng-Beng Lim, Mary-Jane Rubenstein, Jordan Alexander Stein, and me
Diana Center Event Oval
Barnard Center for Research on Women

“Focusing specifically on sexuality, our panelists will discuss the ways in which transnational and non-governmental Christian organizations have an impact on legal and social policies in different areas where Christians may comprise a small minority or a larger percentage of the population.” My panel presentation will address conservative Korean evangelical Christian networks, focusing on the transnational mobilizations of homophobia.

“Beyond good intentions and evil regimes: North Koreans in Korean/American missionary custody”
Short lecture and discussion
Livingston Hall, Livingston Student Center
Rutgers, New Jersey

This lecture is on the geopolitical landscape of human rights advocacy for undocumented North Korean migrants in China. I’ll be talking about the idea of “missionary custody” as a condition of both care and control, drawing from ethnographic research and interviews I conducted as part of my dissertation research.
