“On the Move” site design & launch

“On the Move” is online! It’s still a work in progress, but I’m very happy with how the site turned out. It’s been a while since I worked on web design project, and even though this was “just a WordPress site” with a purchased theme, I got to brush up on CSS and the latest WordPress bells and whistles such as the “featured image” (disabled on single posts but highlighted on the front page), widgets and menus. It’s amazing to see how easily WordPress can work as a robust content management system (CMS). I do sometimes wish I could quit my day job and design WordPress sites for a living. Ha.

Several essays still need revision before they can be published, but the students seem really jazzed after the hugely successful launch event last week and seem eager to continue developing their stories. I couldn’t be more thrilled — after all, the whole point of this project was to emphasize writing, and learning through writing.

And of course, a good-looking site doesn’t hurt the cause. :-) Check it out at http://blog.utsc.utoronto.ca/onthemove/.
