The Department of Classical, Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Korean literature, broadly conceived, to begin in the fall semester of 2016. We particularly welcome applicants whose research and teaching interests extend to related fields such as film, cultural studies, transnational studies, comparative literature, and new media.

The successful candidate will also be expected to share responsibilities for committee and departmental assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Our department offers a wide variety of courses. In addition to language courses in Ancient Greek, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew, we offer courses in both Ancient Western and non-Western classical texts and on modern Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, taught both in English and in the foreign languages we cover. By supporting linguistic and cultural knowledge and proficiency, we provide the foundation for a liberal arts education. We encourage students who have a background in the languages we teach to enhance their proficiency by taking advanced courses. Sequences of our courses may fulfill requirements for majors, minors, and interdisciplinary concentrations.
