Faculty position in “gender geography,” Seoul National University

Advertised as a posi­tion in “gen­der geog­ra­phy,” this posi­tion should inter­est fem­i­nist geo­g­ra­phers and gen­der stud­ies schol­ars with geog­ra­phy empha­sis. It is a tenure-track posi­tion at a top uni­ver­sity in Korea. The posi­tion does not require Korean lan­guage pro­fi­ciency since courses would be taught in English, but of course, some Korean would be help­ful in liv­ing in Korea. There’s a vibrant fem­i­nist com­mu­nity at SNU and other uni­ver­si­ties in Seoul, and this could be a great oppor­tu­nity espe­cially for those with research inter­ests in Korea.


Faculty Position at the Department of Geography

The Department of Geography, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, invites appli­ca­tions for a full-time pro­fes­sor at all ranks begin­ning September 2012 or March 2013. We seek a per­son with research and teach­ing inter­ests in Gender Geography and related dis­ci­plines. A Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related dis­ci­pline is required at the time of appoint­ment. The suc­cess­ful can­di­date will join the depart­ment that offers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD lev­els. In addi­tion, the can­di­date may join the Interdisciplinary Program in Gender Studies, one of the grad­u­ate courses, and may have oppor­tu­nity to do inter­dis­ci­pli­nary gender-related researches with var­i­ous depart­ments sup­ported by the Institute for Gender Research in the University.

Applicants should be Non-Korean Nationals, prefer­ably native English speak­ers. The avail­abil­ity of the posi­tion will be deter­mined by the University, based on the aca­d­e­mic qual­i­fi­ca­tions and expe­ri­ence of the appli­cants. Starting salary ranges approx­i­mately from USD 52,000 at the begin­ning assis­tant pro­fes­sor level and would increase depend­ing on the qual­i­fi­ca­tions and expe­ri­ence. University fac­ulty hous­ing will be avail­able and mov­ing cost will be cov­ered by the University.

The new e-journal Religion and Gender is pleased to announce the pub­li­ca­tion of its first issue. This issue addresses the theme ‘Critical Issues in the Study of Religion and Gender’ and is free avail­able at www​.reli​gio​nand​gen​der​.org.

The next two issues of the jour­nal will explore the themes ‘Religion, Gender and Multiculturalism’ (Winter 2011) and ‘Masculinities and Religion: Continuities and Change’ (Spring 2012).

Religion and Gender is a ref­er­eed, online, open access jour­nal for the sys­tem­atic study of gen­der and reli­gion in an inter­dis­ci­pli­nary per­spec­tive. The jour­nal explores the rela­tion, con­fronta­tion and inter­sec­tion of gen­der and reli­gion, tak­ing into account the mul­ti­ple and chang­ing man­i­fes­ta­tions of reli­gion in diverse social and cul­tural con­texts. It analy­ses and reflects crit­i­cally on gen­der in its inter­pre­ta­tive and imag­i­na­tive dimen­sions and as a fun­da­men­tal prin­ci­ple of social order­ing. It seeks to inves­ti­gate gen­der at the inter­sec­tion of fem­i­nist, sex­u­al­ity, queer, mas­culin­ity and diver­sity stud­ies.

Searching for scholar whose work focuses on African American Women. Ph.D., schol­arly cre­den­tials and some teach­ing expe­ri­ence in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies required, Ph.D. by 9÷1÷12 strongly pre­ferred, but ABD will be con­sid­ered. Field open, but pref­er­ence to can­di­dates whose work crosses tra­di­tional aca­d­e­mic bound­aries. Duties include: one required course and one elec­tive course each semes­ter, includ­ing large gen­eral edu­ca­tion intro­duc­tory course; under­grad­u­ate and grad­u­ate stu­dent advis­ing; depart­men­tal and uni­ver­sity wide ser­vice. Mellon postdoc in Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers

Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities

The Women’s and Gender Studies Department, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Institute for Research on Women (IRW) at Rutgers University, is pleased to announce a two-year post­doc­toral fel­low­ship sup­ported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The selected fel­low will receive a stipend of $51,500 each year as well as an annual research allo­ca­tion of $2,000 and Rutgers University health ben­e­fits. The fel­low will pur­sue research and teach three courses in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department dur­ing the two-year term of her/his appoint­ment. The fel­low also will par­tic­i­pate in sem­i­nars and other activ­i­ties orga­nized by the IRW. The Women’s and Gender Studies Department has par­tic­u­lar inter­est in schol­ars of U.S. Latina and Latin American Feminism, Asian American Feminist Studies, and African Feminism, espe­cially those work­ing on crit­i­cal sex­u­al­i­ties, but wel­comes appli­ca­tions from all schol­ars who feel that their work would ben­e­fit from affil­i­a­tion with our depart­ment and with the IRW.

Women’s and Gender Studies has a rich his­tory at Rutgers University. Inaugurated as a depart­ment in 2001, Women’s and Gender Studies has grown from offer­ing a few courses at the University in 1973 to becom­ing one of the strongest inter­dis­ci­pli­nary grad­u­ate and under­grad­u­ate pro­grams in the United States. Department fac­ulty include 30 core, 117 grad­u­ate, and 75 affil­i­ate mem­bers whose exper­tise in Women’s and Gender Studies is enriched by spe­cial­iza­tions in the Arts, Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, and Comparative Literatures in English, French, and Spanish.

The IRW’s sem­i­nar, orga­nized around an annual theme, brings together fac­ulty and advanced grad­u­ate stu­dents to dis­cuss works-in-progress from a range of dis­ci­pli­nary and method­olog­i­cal per­spec­tives. Annual top­ics for 2011 – 14 are: Trans Studies: Beyond Hetero/Homo Normativities (2012−2013) and The Cosmetic and the Polemics of Fashioning the Self (2013−2014).

GENDER, RACE AND ENVIRONMENT

Applications are invited for a tenure-track posi­tion, at the Assistant Professor level, in Gender, Race and Environment. Candidates must hold a PhD in a rel­e­vant field by the time of appoint­ment. We seek can­di­dates who work at the inter­sec­tions of gen­der, race, class and envi­ron­ment, such as: crit­i­cal gen­der and race the­ory; gen­der and transna­tion­al­ism; social mar­gin­al­iza­tion and processes of racial­iza­tion and gender/sex oppres­sion; the rela­tions among racial­iza­tion, gen­der, and polit­i­cal ecol­ogy; and gen­der and anti-racist activism/politics, espe­cially as these are artic­u­lated with issues of envi­ron­men­tal jus­tice and sov­er­eignty. Also wel­come are appli­cants whose work focuses on issues of colo­nial­ism, glob­al­iza­tion, and indige­nous race/gender jus­tice or on the Global South (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean). Candidates should have demon­strated exper­tise in inter­dis­ci­pli­nary schol­ar­ship. Applied expe­ri­ence address­ing gen­der, race and envi­ron­ment issues at local/community lev­els is an asset.

Candidates must have teach­ing expe­ri­ence and be able to con­tribute to teach­ing, advis­ing and research at both the under­grad­u­ate and grad­u­ate lev­els, includ­ing super­vi­sion of doc­toral research. The suc­cess­ful appli­cant must demon­strate excel­lence or promise of excel­lence in schol­arly research, teach­ing and ser­vice. The abil­ity to con­tribute to one or more of the Faculty’s cer­tifi­cate or diploma pro­grams is an asset.
