Summer Programs in Korea 2011

The following information is from the UCLA Center for Korean Studies email list, with a few details added by me. I do not have any additional information about the application process or the program. -Judy

Sogang University Korean Studies Summer Program
The 2011 Sogang Korean Studies Summer Program will begin June 20, 2011 and end July 22, 2011. This program will focus on Korean Studies (politics, literature, music, history, cinema, economy, etc.) and include Korean language instruction, as well as field trips to historical and cultural locations such as the DMZ, palaces, folk village, Korean drama filming set, and others.

Sogang University Korean Immersion Program
The Korean Immersion Program is a five-week program designed for students who would like to improve their conversational Korean skills and their knowledge of Korean culture. The program runs from July 11, 2011 to August 12, 2011 with 30 hours per week of language classes, cultural interaction activities, and cultural field trips. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2011.

Ewha Women’s University International Summer College
Session I (June 24 – July 22, 2011) is a full month-long program designed for global talents with passion for both academic and cultural spheres. Academically, Ewha’s summer program is best known for its dedicated professors, who gladly engage with students and have high expectations after a rigorous course. Every weekend, program coordinators will accompany the students on numerous exciting hands-on field trips to places which offer opportunities to best experience the tradition and culture of contemporary Seoul. Korean Folk Village, Demilitarized Zone, The House of Sharing, B-boy Performance, Everland, and Boryeong Mud Festival are some of the highly demanded spots which will be provided for Session I participants. The application deadline for Session I is May 18, 2011.

Session II (August 1 – August 12, 2011) is a customized program to best provide students a chance to learn and experience Korea to the fullest. Students who register for Session II will automatically participate in the set academic program as below and participate in field trips and cultural excursions to places that best offer the traditional and contemporary culture of Seoul. The application deadline for Session II is July 6, 2011.

Yonsei International Summer School
The 2011 International Summer School provides students the opportunity to enrich their academic and cultural experience. Classes are from June 28 to August 4, 2011.

Korea University International Summer Campus
ISC 2011 will begin June 27, 2011 and end August 4, 2011. The ISC serves as an international hub for academic dialogue during summer – For Korean students, it is a gateway to experience quality education that prepares them for global leadership. For International students, it is an opportunity to learn about Korea and Korean culture, politics, economy and history. ISC opens the door to globalization and increases mutual understanding among people with diverse background

Seoul National University International Summer Institute
SNU ISI offers an exceptional opportunity for students to study at Korea’s most prestigious university and one of the leading universities in the world. SNU ISI offers an intensive five-week summer program led by distinguished SNU and international faculties. Conducted completely in English, and the lectures will be held throughout Monday to Thursday. Students who wish to learn Korean and Korean culture may take the courses of “Korean Language”, “Korean Music” and “Korean Arts and Crafts” where they will learn language, cross-cultural communication skills, and traditional culture. Program runs from June 27 to July 29, 2011.
