Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Position in in Latina/o/x Urban Issues
The Department of Urban Planning, in partnership with the Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) at UCLA, invites applications from scholars in urban studies and urban planning for a tenured/tenure-track appointment. We seek an innovative thinker who will be a leading scholar of urban issues in Latina/o/x communities and whose work will play an important role in shaping future policy debates. We welcome applicants with varied research interests within this broad area, including but not limited to neighborhood change, community development, social mobility, race and ethnicity, immigration, and urban planning in communities of color. We are open to varied methodologies, but are especially interested in scholars whose work applies quantitative methodologies to one or more these research areas. We are open to scholars with interest in any geographical area and especially welcome applicants with an interest in the study of Los Angeles or its region in their research.
The Department of Urban Planning currently hosts 18 tenured/tenure-track planning faculty, 6 affiliated tenured/tenure-track faculty, 7 long-term adjunct/practice faculty, 3 active professors emeriti, 35 PhD students, 150 master’s students, and a growing number of undergraduate majors. Our faculty also teach in the new schoolwide Public Affairs undergraduate program. We have a tradition of intellectual leadership in urban and regional studies and design, and our faculty, students, and alumni have long been known for their passionate commitment to social justice and progressive planning ideals. The Department of Urban Planning has the unique advantage of being situated in the interdisciplinary Luskin School of Public Affairs along with highly ranked departments of Social Welfare and Public Policy. All faculty in the Luskin School of Public Affairs (including the departments of Social Welfare, Urban Planning, and Public Policy) have opportunities to participate in current initiatives in global affairs, digital technologies, the environment, democracy and inequality, and social justice, equity, and opportunity.
This appointment resides completely in the Department of Urban Planning, but the appointee will be a Faculty Associate in the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC). Since its founding in 1969, the CSRC has played a pivotal role in the development of scholarly research on the Chicano-Latino population. The CSRC will offer the person hired an additional community of scholars with related interests.

You should also ask three referees who know you and your work well to submit letters of recommendation on your behalf.
The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in Urban Planning, Urban Studies, or a related social science discipline at the time of appointment.
