ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES: FOCUS ON KOREAN AMERICA, Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University has newly instituted a fellows program IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access). One line is reserved for Asian American Studies with a focus on Korean America. This position (with a teaching load of 2/1) will turn into a tenure-track position in two years. Please help circulate this information, as the administration proposed a tight time frame. BOSTON UNIVERSITY’s DEPARTMENT OF WORLD LANGUAGES & LITERATURES

Full-time lecturer in Korean beginning September 1, 2022, with an initial term of 2 years, renewable based on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities include teaching all levels of Korean to heritage and non-heritage learners in BU’s robust Korean program and collaborating with faculty in related fields across campus. Requirements include: an M.A. (at minimum) in Korean linguistics, language pedagogy, second-language acquisition, or a relevant field; native or near-native fluency in Korean and English; commitment to a proficiency-based communicative curriculum; demonstrated excellence in college-level Korean language teaching; leadership and administrative ability; familiarity with the North American higher education system; and experience using technology in the language classroom. EAST ASIAN HISTORY, Emory University

The Department of History at Emory University is seeking applications for an open-rank tenured or tenure-track position in East Asian history. We are particularly interested in applicants who specialize in the history of Japan and/or Korea and/or who bring a global or transnational perspective to their research and teaching. Specialists in all time periods will be considered.

The successful applicant will teach courses and provide mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including directing undergraduate honors projects and PhD dissertations, as well as participate in the activities of the History Department, the East Asian Studies Program, and the university as a whole.

ASIAN LANGUAGES & LITERATURE: KOREAN LITERATURE, CULTURAL STUDIES, OR FILM AND MEDIA STUDIES, University of Washington, Seattle

Tenure-track Assistant Professor with a teaching and research emphasis in Korean literature, cultural studies, or film and media studies, beginning Autumn 2022. The successful candidate is expected to develop a record of high-quality publications, to provide high quality teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to join the department in building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.

The University of Washington has a long history of Korean studies and an excellent library collection for Korea-related fields. The successful applicant will join a vibrant campus community of students and scholars of Korean studies and will build connections across campus. The applicant will contribute to the future development of the Korean program within the department, and work collaboratively with relevant groups in the department, university, and community.

This is a tenure-track, full-time appointment (9-month service period), with a 5-course teaching load. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent by the start of the appointment, with a specialization in Korean literature, cultural studies, or film and media studies. TENURE-TRACK PROFESSOR IN MODERN KOREAN HUMANITIES, Harvard University

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in modern Korean humanities. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2022. We are particularly interested in scholars with an interdisciplinary range who combine an interest in transnational dynamics with strengths in film, media, and/or cultural studies. All applicants should possess a high level of proficiency in Korean. To ensure full consideration, applications should be submitted online by October 1, 2021.

Candidates should demonstrate the capacity for excellence in teaching as well as research and will be expected to teach a range of offerings related to Korean humanities, from introductory undergraduate lecture courses to graduate seminars. UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN KOREAN STUDIES, Leiden University in the Netherlands

Leiden University invites applications for a University Lecturer in Korean studies to preferably begin 1 January 2022 but no later than 1 September 2022. We are particularly interested in candidates with an expertise in communication and media studies who study the social, cultural, political, or economic impact of social media. Thematic areas of specialization may include new media and communication technologies, digital culture, (cultural) production and consumption of (digital) media, multimodality, media and information literacies, or digital humanities. Also candidates who specialize in premodern Korea are encouraged to apply, although the ability to teach on the contemporary Koreas is expected. We welcome applicants whose research and teaching profile demonstrates sensitivity to historical, social and cultural contexts related to their research theme. An excellent command of the relevant source languages is expected. Certainly in teaching and preferably in research, the successful candidate is expected to engage with the wider (East) Asian context and contribute to position the study of the Koreas in transnational and global configurations.
